As the seasons change, our skin changes too.
Winter brings crisp mornings, cool winds, indoor heating and long hot showers. While many of us enjoy the comfort of the colder months, our skin often tells a different story. It can start to feel dry, tight, rough and uncomfortable as it loses moisture more quickly than it does during warmer weather.
One of the questions I’m often asked at markets is why skin suddenly becomes so much drier in winter, even when people haven’t changed their skincare routine.
The answer is quite simple. Cold air contains less humidity, indoor heating reduces moisture even further, and hot showers can wash away the skin’s natural protective oils. Together, these everyday winter habits make it harder for the skin to hold onto the hydration it needs.
That is why I believe winter is the perfect time to use richer, more nourishing skincare.
At Earth Lab, our Body Butter for Dry Skin is made in small batches using carefully selected botanical ingredients that work together to replenish moisture and support the skin’s natural barrier. Rather than sitting heavily on the skin, it melts beautifully with body warmth, leaving skin feeling soft, comfortable and deeply nourished.
Mango Butter
Mango butter is one of my favourite ingredients for dry winter skin.
Naturally rich and deeply nourishing, it helps soften rough areas while supporting the skin’s natural moisture barrier. It absorbs beautifully and leaves the skin feeling smooth and comfortable without a greasy finish.
Organic Shea Butter
Organic shea butter has been used for generations to care for dry skin.
It is naturally rich in essential fatty acids that help replenish moisture while protecting the skin from the drying effects of cold weather. During winter it provides lasting nourishment, helping skin feel softer, smoother and more supple.
Safflower Oil
Although lightweight, safflower oil is incredibly moisturising.
Rich in linoleic acid, it helps support healthy looking skin while locking in hydration. It is especially beneficial for skin that feels dry, tight or rough during the colder months, helping restore softness without feeling heavy.
Supporting Your Skin Through Winter
Healthy skin is not about using more products. Often, it simply needs the right ingredients and a little extra care when the weather changes.
Small daily habits can make a noticeable difference:
- Apply a rich moisturiser straight after showering while your skin is still slightly damp.
- Avoid very hot showers where possible, as they can strip away your skin’s natural oils.
- Keep hydrated throughout the day.
- Choose skincare made with nourishing botanical ingredients that help support the skin’s natural barrier.
Winter doesn’t have to mean uncomfortable skin.
With gentle care and ingredients that work in harmony with your skin, it’s possible to keep your skin feeling soft, comfortable and well nourished all season long.
At Earth Lab, every batch is handcrafted using thoughtfully chosen plant based ingredients because I believe caring for your skin should feel simple, natural and comforting, especially during winter.
Warmly,
Anya
