Perfectly Imperfect: The Beauty of Natural Skincare
It starts with a message from a lovely customer.
She had ordered a few of her favourites, including our Lavender Bicarb Free deodorant.
But this time, something was different.
The paste had a few cracks on top, a warm golden colour she had not seen before, and the lavender scent she loved felt softer than usual.
She asked if this was normal.
The short answer: yes.
The longer answer? That is where the beauty of natural skincare really shines.
Raw, Unrefined, Full of Life
I use raw, unrefined, unprocessed oils in all Earth Lab products.
They have gone through minimal chemical or heat exposure, so they hold on to every bit of their natural goodness — nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants.
These are the things your skin loves most.
The trade off? They do not always look perfectly smooth or uniform.
Processed oils can be made to look the same every time, but in the process, much of their vitality is lost.
I will take the lively, nourishing, slightly unpredictable oils any day.
How Nature Responds to the Seasons
Natural ingredients are sensitive to their surroundings.
When the weather is cold, oils can firm up, sometimes creating little cracks on the surface of the paste.
When it warms, they soften again, returning to that creamy texture you know and love.
It is just how nature works, always moving with the seasons.
Colour with a Story
The beeswax I use comes straight from the beekeeper.
Its colour can range from pale yellow to deep golden orange.
The shade depends on the flowers the bees have visited, the season, and even the age of the wax.
When the wax is darker, it naturally tints the deodorant paste, sometimes giving it warm yellow or orange tones.
Some essential oils add their own gentle colour too.
Even unrefined butters like shea, coconut, and olive can shift in shade depending on the harvest.
Each ingredient brings its own character to the jar.
The Aroma Factor
I always use the same formula, with the same percentage of essential oil.
This is carefully regulated and never changes.
But nature is never identical twice.
One batch of lavender might be beautifully bold, the next softer and more delicate, all depending on the season, the soil, and the way it was distilled.
Lavender in our sensitive deodorant formula is intentionally gentle, so you may notice more variation in scent here than in other products.
Perfect Is Not Natural — And That Is the Beauty of It
I have come to love these little differences.
They remind me of buying organic apples from the same tree, each one with its own shape, colour, and flavour.
We have grown used to perfect consistency because most products on the shelves are made with heavily processed ingredients.
Uniform by design, but missing the vitality of nature.
Natural products are alive with nutrients.
They will never be exactly the same every time, and that is part of their charm.
A Final Thought
These changes in colour, texture, or scent never affect the quality or performance of your deodorant.
They are simply a reflection of the real, living ingredients inside.
Every jar is a small story of the season, the harvest, and the hands that made it.
And I would not have it any other way.
From my hands to yours,
Anya
